Plena Corona de Aurora over Univision

Music in seclusion. Breaking through the isolation w/ cell phones, social distancing, and a lot of heart. In an effort to find joy and solace in words and music with a genre of resistance and news informing, I wrote this Plena in that struggle. Plena is the music of community, of lament, of news and protest, of resistance against the daily onslaught of death, sickness, as fragments of our lives disappear. Music helps to process the news as it elicits joy, happiness, and hope.

The Pandemic brought the news of rescinded festivals, closed restaurants, canceled gigs. Then the fatal news of fallen friends to this virus began to grow as fast as the Virus' spread. I called my bro' Yeyi, a percussionist who gave me hooks and drum breaks. I called my arranger and pianist Antoine Alvear just to put down bass and keys but he got inspired and genuinely conspired to help make this music in seclusion breakthrough the collusion of this Virus. He called his friend in Chile, who put down the sax lines. Then we sent it to David Heredero who put it all together in his home studio.
